Designers On Board For Historic Bendigo Station

30 May 2019

Local Bendigo company e+ Architecture has been appointed to design the refresh of Bendigo’s iconic station building as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $15.8 million Bendigo and Eaglehawk Station upgrades.

Operating for more than 40 years in Bendigo, e+ Architecture has delivered a range of local projects including the award-winning Epsom Primary School redevelopment, remodelling learning spaces at Kalianna School and restoring heritage buildings as part of the Bendigo Hospital Project.

As part of the works, the station waiting area will be redesigned with new seating, making the station more comfortable for passengers waiting to catch the train.

Toilet facilities at the station will undergo a major upgrade, including a new changing places facility with a full-sized change table and hoists to improve access for people with disabilities.

Ticket counters will also be modified, making it easier for people using mobility aids to purchase a ticket.

Special care will be taken to preserve the heritage values of the station building, and the interior design will respect the historical character of the area.

This comes on top of the recently opened new pedestrian bridge, which makes it easier for all passengers to transfer between platforms and connect with local buses and taxis.

Upgrades to Eaglehawk Station are currently underway, with works to extend the platform allowing longer trains to stop at the station completed, and construction on a new 60-space car park with taxi and drop off areas to be completed by the end of the year.

Once the design has been finalised, a contractor will be appointed to carry out the works on the Bendigo Station building, which will be completed in 2020.
