On-Demand Bus For Tarneit North

10 December 2021

The Andrews Labor Government is introducing a new on-demand bus service to Tarneit North to further boost public transport options in Melbourne’s west, a future superhub for transport.

The Flexiride service will be an easy ride for locals travelling to work, shopping centres, health services and connecting trains. Commuters will be able to get to key destinations including Tarneit Station and Tarneit Central Shopping Centre.

FlexiRide services do not have a fixed route. Passengers will be able to book a seat via the FlexiRide app or phone, be directed to their closest bus stop – either a physical or appropriate alternative location – and be picked up and transported to dedicated hubs.

The contract is currently out to tender, with the service set to commence in late-2022.

It’s another step in providing better public transport options for locals in Melbourne’s western suburbs following the introduction of two new bus routes connecting Wyndham residents to public transport options for the first time.

Route 152 Tarneit – Williams Landing and Route 182 Werribee – Tarneit via Tarneit West provides new public transport coverage and connects passengers to trains at Tarneit Station.

The new routes also provide access to trains at Williams Landing Station, Werribee Station and service important location destinations including Werribee Town Centre.

Victoria’s Big Build is creating thousands of local jobs while transforming Sunshine into a major centre with the development of a new precinct, including a transport superhub.

The superhub will connect Melbourne with regional Victoria, Melbourne Airport Rail, Metro Tunnel and Suburban Rail Loop improving connections and providing more trains more often.

The station will nearly double in size, including a new accessible second concourse with escalators, lifts and extra ticketing machines to make it easier for passengers to move through the station.

The rollout of longer nine-car regional trains on selected services for Wyndham Vale and Tarneit passengers will create more capacity, with the extension of regional platforms at Sunshine Station to support these services.

The first stage of Geelong Fast Rail is another key initial component of the Western Rail Plan – enabling some express Geelong services to travel to Melbourne in around 50 minutes via an upgraded Werribee corridor, while creating space to run more trains on other western rail corridors such as Wyndham Vale and Melton.

The Labor Government is investing $20 billion in infrastructure projectsin Melbourne’s west creating better public transport for the growing community.
