Delivering Thousands More Homes – Faster

The Carroll Labor Government is fast-tracking new homes – close to public transport, jobs and schools.

The Development Facilitation Program (DFP) fast tracked approvals for 1,775 homes in August alone.

The total number of homes approved through the program is now over 15,000.

This includes the recent approval of 478 new homes on Victoria Parade in Collingwood which will have a public plaza, neighbourhood garden and ground floor retail units in a well-connected area close to public transport.

The DFP streamlines the planning process for projects that deliver homes for Victorians.

The pathway has brought average approval time for projects down to four months – 10 months faster than the average council housing approval.

To be eligible, projects must provide 10 per cent affordable housing – either through new homes or a cash contribution to the Social Housing Growth Fund.

In the first 12 months of the DFP, 3,705 homes were approved. That figure more than doubled to 9,000 in the following 12 months, with a further 6,000 homes already approved so far this year.

Through the program, almost $63 million has been directed to the Social Housing Growth Fund – helping more homes to be built for people who need them most.

Victoria continues to build and approve thousands of more homes than any other state, and our leading reforms are making it easier to deliver them.

Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition will rip up our planning reforms – cutting 300,000 homes, delaying construction and making it harder for young Victorians to buy a home.

Only Labor will fight for working people who want to enter the housing market.
