Labor is helping Victorians sleeping rough find the safety and stability of secure homes.
Minister Staikos today announced Labor has backed a supportive housing development in St Kilda.
Madden House will share in $15 million in funding from the Victorian Budget 2026/27 with four other supportive housing sites in Melbourne, Seddon, Shepparton and Mildura.
The former rooming house has been converted into 26 self-contained units with on-site support services.
Madden House residents moved into apartments in December last year and since opening, there has been a 12% reduction in local by-name lists.
Half of the Madden House residents are First Peoples and 12 are women.
The development includes a consulting room, common room for activities and an outdoor recreation area.
Residents have access to case management, health and mental health experts through VincentCare Victoria.
Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation also provides case management and cultural support services.
The initiative is delivered by the Labor Government with St Kilda Community Housing and City of Port Phillip.
This year’s Budget delivers $47 million to tackle homelessness, including $26 million for services that tackle rough sleeping through outreach services.
This is in addition to more than $300 million Labor has invested in specialist homelessness services for around 100,000 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness every year.
