The Andrews Labor Government is giving Victoria’s growing suburbs the support they need to build great local facilities.
Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek and Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly today visited Wyndham City Council to view the progress on the new Williams Landing Reserve Integrated Sports and Community Hub and announce the opening date for the next round of the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The Victorian Budget 2019/20 is investing a further $50 million to the Fund, with the latest round of grants opening in August this year.
The Fund delivers the investment Melbourne’s 10 interface councils need to build sports pavilions, family and community centres, and other projects – ensuring locals have the facilities and services they need, close to home.
The Williams Landing Reserve Integrated Sports and Community Hub received a $1.9 million funding boost from the Labor Government, as part of the 2017/18 round of the Growing Suburbs Fund.
Construction is progressing on schedule with the new facilities set to open in coming months – including a sports and community pavilion that will be accessible for all members of the local community.
Work is well underway on the pavilion, which will be home to changerooms with shower and toilet amenities, a community meeting space, kitchen, public toilets and a first aid room.
The project also includes two sporting fields, tennis courts, a playground, BBQ facilities and shelter, and a shared car park, which will provide many great recreational opportunities for the community once open.
The $3.8 million project is being delivered by the Wyndham City Council in partnership with the Labor Government.
Local projects in Wyndham City Council have received approximately $14.8 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund since it was established in 2015.
