Cutting Edge CT Scans For Maryborough Patients

17 October 2018

The Andrews Labor Government will install a cutting-edge new CT scanner to ensure more patients at Maryborough District Health Service get the diagnosis they need faster.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy visited Maryborough Hospital today to announce $1.3 million to replace the Computed Tomography unit with the latest state-of-the-art model.

The new CT scanner will speed up the time it takes doctors to make a diagnosis, meaning patients can start treatment sooner – and leave hospital faster.

Faster and more precise diagnoses will mean a higher quality of care for patients – and will help Maryborough Hospital cater to growing demand.

Maryborough patients will no longer be required to travel long distances to access the cutting-edge technology, saving them time and travel costs.

The Government has also funded a new swipe card access system for hard-working health staff to keep them safe while at work. The $67,500 investment is paving the way for 43 new swipe card entry points.

The Labor Government’s $250 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history — rebuilding regional and rural hospitals and health services all over the state to ensure all patients get the quality care they deserve, no matter where they live.

The Fund is already providing $4.1 million for high-quality accommodation and better facilities, including a new kitchen, so local nurses can learn their skills at the Maryborough District Health Service’s Centre of Inspired Learning.

The Labor Government is giving our dedicated health services the funding they need to provide the very best care. This year, Maryborough District Health Service has a $23.5 million operating budget – a 6.3 per cent increase on the previous 12 months, and 29.5 per cent more than when the Liberal Nationals were last in power.

In contrast, the former Liberal National Government cut a billion dollars from health when they were last in office, and will do it again if they get the chance. You can’t trust them when it comes to health – all they do is cut.
