Crime Stoppers Victoria has marked its 30th anniversary of service with a record breaking year.

Victorians contacted Crime Stoppers more than 81,000 times during 2016, leading to more than 1500 arrests and almost 5600 charges being laid across the state.

Minister for Police Lisa Neville joined with Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton and CSV Chief Executive Officer Sam Hunter to celebrate the milestone.

On top of the arrests made in 2016, information provided to Crime Stoppers led to the seizure of more than $7 million worth of drugs, $1.8 million worth of property and almost $350,000 in cash.

The Andrews Labor Government's record $2 billion police investment is providing additional funding for targeted Crime Stoppers campaigns in local areas across Victoria.

It forms part of Victoria’s first ever Community Safety Statement – a landmark plan to keep Victorians safe, prevent harm in our communities and hold criminals to account.

The Government is recruiting an extra 2729 police over the next four years to boost frontline resources.

This will see a total of 3135 new police on top of normal attrition recruitment, including the 406 funded in the Victorian Budget 2016/17, deployed over the coming years.
