Cricket Victoria Pads Up For Towards Zero

17 November 2017

More than 1,100 Victorian cricket clubs will be bowling up road safety messages to players and spectators, as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Toward Zero Road Safety Strategy.

The Transport Accident Commission has recruited Cricket Victoria to be part of its plan to create a future where no one dies or is seriously injured on the state’s roads.

Cricket fans will see TAC road safety campaigns at all state and international cricket played at the MCG and Etihad Stadium this season.

The two-year partnership will also focus on grassroots cricket clubs through road safety education and training programs.

The partnership’s programs are aimed at club players, supporters and their family members, encouraging leadership and starting conversations about road safety.

These programs include Towards Zero training sessions for Cricket Victoria players involved in the men’s and women’ academies, Victorian Country, Victorian Metro and state teams.

Parents of teenagers engaged in Cricket Victoria’s programs will be encouraged to complete the Safer P-Platers e-learning module and there’ll be leadership sessions for under 19 and under 17 Academy players through the Reach Foundation.

The Towards Zero 2016-2020 Road Safety Strategy maps out how Victorian road safety partners will work towards a 20% reduction in deaths and 15% reduction in serious injuries in five years.
