Contract Awarded To Build A Better Hallam Road

25 September 2018

Drivers are a step closer to a better Hallam Road with builder BMD Group winning the contract to build the Andrews Labor Government’s major upgrade of the key arterial road.

Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan said the 1.2km upgrade will reduce congestion and improve safety for drivers by adding a lane in each direction between Ormond Road and the South Gippsland Highway in Hampton Park.

The upgrade will also see new traffic lights added to the busy intersection at South Gippsland Highway, helping drivers safely turn to and from Hallam Road and Evans Road.

Traffic lights will also be installed at the SUEZ Hampton Park Resource and Recovery Centre to control the large number of trucks entering the site.

A dedicated left turning lane will also be added to separate turning trucks from the cars continuing on Hallam Road.

Improving this corridor will also allow for Evans Road to be reopened at the Cranbourne rail line, reconnecting the nearby communities of Lynbrook and Lyndhurst.

New walking and cycling paths will be built on each side of the road better linking the community to nearby public transport options.

More than 40,000 vehicles rely on the busy Hallam Road/South Gippsland Highway intersection each day, while more than 10,000 vehicles travel along Hallam Road each day.

The upgrade is due for completion in early 2020 and is being delivered by the Major Road Projects Authority, a dedicated new authority overseeing major road construction projects across Melbourne and Victoria.
