Construction Starts On New-Look Glen Eira College

Students in Glen Eira are a step closer to the facilities they deserve, with work starting on a complete rebuild of the school.

Minister for Education James Merlino today got a unique virtual reality tour of the new school design via Oculus Rift – a virtual reality headset - before turning the first sod to mark the start of construction.

The $9.5 million for the upgrade includes refurbishment and extension of all school buildings, a new student entrance and staircase, and a new arts and technology hub.

Glen Eira College was established in 1997 following the amalgamation of Caulfield High School, Murrumbeena Secondary College and Prahran Secondary College.

This major upgrade will help cater for growing student numbers, with enrolments up from 338 students in 2003 to 650 students this year.

Construction company 2Construct will carry out the work, which will be finished by the end of 2017.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian students gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school.

There are now 42 new government schools and hundreds of school upgrades in the construction pipeline following the Labor Government’s record $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure.

This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live.
