Chelsea Heights Primary Unveils Inclusive Spaces

21 March 2018

Chelsea Heights students have access to sensory gardens and outdoor learning areas to support students with disabilities and special needs thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson today visited Chelsea Heights Primary School to officially open its $400,000 upgrade to the June Elliot Centre.

Previously the main school hall, the June Elliot Centre has an open indoor and outdoor area to support sensory activities, offices to house teaching and support staff including psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and visiting teachers and a multi-purpose learning area.

The upgrade also includes a new multi-purpose sensory space, new accessible toilet and interactive floor 360-degree projector.

Spaces Architects designed and Ducon built the inclusive spaces.

The Labor Government is helping schools upgrade their buildings and playgrounds and buy equipment to provide a more inclusive environment for children with disabilities and additional needs.

The Inclusive Schools Fund is a $20 million fund providing government schools with quality new spaces and more inclusive facilities, based on best practice research and design.
