Charlton Set For Grandstand Return To Racing

19 December 2019

Racegoers can look forward to celebrating the new $4.2 million grandstand and community hub at Charlton Park Reserve in style at a special harness meeting on Sunday.

The new multi-purpose facility at Charlton Park Reserve replaces old buildings that were in poor condition, flood-damaged and no longer met the needs of the community.

The Andrews Labor Government invested $1.5 million towards the cost of the community-driven project which has delivered improved facilities for regional harness racing, Agricultural and Pastoral Society administration facilities, a 240-seat function centre and shared clubrooms for football, netball, hockey, tennis, cricket and golf.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula also announced today that the Labor Government would contribute $2,700 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the Charlton Harness Racing Club’s Return to Racing meeting on Sunday.

Celebrations for the Return to Racing meeting will include a jumping castle for the kids, the chance to ride in the mobile barrier and complimentary race books and barbecue. Entry is free.

Charlton Harness Racing Club is providing more than $3,000 towards the day, with Harness Racing Victoria tipping in $300.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has provided $525,891 to support four harness events and six infrastructure projects at Charlton Harness Racing Club.
