Celebrating Women Through Collingwood Street Art

03 March 2016

Three local artists have been cast in a striking mural on the Collingwood office wall of the Minister for Planning and Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne.

The accomplished artists, all women, were chosen for the mural thanks to their contribution to Melbourne’s art scene and their roots in Melbourne’s creative inner city community.

Internationally renowned street artist Rone created the mural, which was commissioned to coincide with 2016’s International Women’s Day on March 8.

The three artists, who live and work around the Richmond electorate, are:

  • Miso, otherwise known as Stanislava Pinchuk, who creates pinpricks work on paper and is one of the youngest artists featured at the National Gallery of Australia
  • Bianca Chang, known for her sculpture and work with paper
  • Hana Davies, a photographer who works exclusively with film

Mr Wynne invited Catherine Andrews, wife of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, to inspect the mural’s progress while work was underway ahead of International Women’s Day.

Mr Wynne worked with the City of Yarra and local street art and graffiti management agency, Juddy Roller, to take the mural from a concept to a dramatic addition to the Collingwood streetscape.

Juddy Roller commissioned Internationally-acclaimed street artist Rone, who has been working around inner Melbourne for about 15 years and has exhibited in San Francisco, Berlin, London and Paris.
