Celebrating The Festive Season At Sandown

07 December 2017

Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is celebrating the Christmas season with two big nights of racing thanks to almost $43,000 in funding supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is contributing more than $18,000 through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to the ‘Santa Rocks the Dogs’ Christmas race nights starting tonight, 7 December, and concluding next Thursday, 14 December.

Both events will feature a range of entertainment including Big City Beat playing Top 40 party music and tributes to the megastars. There will also be face painting and games for children each night, while those over 18 will enjoy merchandise giveaways.

The meeting next Thursday, 14 December, will coincide with the greyhound trainers’ Christmas Party, which will see Santa arrive trackside by firetruck.

The club is also providing more than $24,000 towards the two race meetings.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $650,000 for an infrastructure project and 20 greyhound race day initiatives at Sandown.

The racing industry in metropolitan Melbourne generates more than $1.5 billion for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 13,590 full-time equivalent jobs locally.
