The Andrews Labor Government’s Keeping Ballarat Moving investment is set to bust congestion and improve safety for schoolkids in the heart of Sebastopol.
The $60.8 million package of upgrades will help to keep traffic flowing at some of the area’s most notorious traffic chokepoints, as well as improving safety for students heading to and from local schools.
Traffic lights will be installed at the busy intersection of the Midland Highway and Hertford Street, replacing the existing roundabout, relieving congestion and making it easier and safer for people walking in the area.
The Midland Highway will also be expanded from two lanes to four between Queen Street and Docwra Street to tackle congestion, while a new roundabout will reduce the risk of crashes at the notorious Docwra Street intersection.
An upgraded school crossing will also make it safer and easier for Magpie Primary School students heading to and from school.
Other components of the package to keep traffic flowing smoothly around Ballarat will include the installation of traffic lights at the intersections of Wiltshire Lane and the Glenelg Highway, Wiltshire Lane and Latrobe Street, and Gillies Street and Gregory Street West, and a new roundabout at the Dyson Drive-Carngham Road intersection.
