The first piece in the Armstrong Creek Education Precinct has opened today, with the first cohort of students through the doors at the new Armstrong Creek School which has been built to support this growing community.
Premier Daniel Andrews and Member for Geelong Christine Couzens today joined the school community to celebrate the opening of this unique new inclusive school, combining a primary and special school on one site.
The school will be embedded in neighbourhood life thanks to its community hub, which will be used by the school during the day and by the community outside of school hours including for before and after school care.
New facilities at the new combined school include a gymnasium with indoor courts, as well as outdoor courts, sporting fields, sensory rooms and gardens.
Armstrong Creek School will have the permanent facilities to accommodate 400 students at the primary school and 208 students at the special school.
The next stage of the Armstrong Creek Education Precinct will be to relocate Oberon High School onto the site, which will create the state-of-the-art education precinct needed by this fast growing local community.
Armstrong Creek School was designed by ClarkeHopkinsClarke architects and built by Watpac builders.
The Labor Government is building the Education State so every student can access a great school and has invested $2.5 billion in the past three years to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.
Across the Geelong region this has included upgrades at Bellarine Secondary, Geelong High, Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary and Northern Bay P-12.
This is in stark contrast to the former Liberal Government who ripped billions of dollars out of education and did little to plan for growth.
