Building The Best School Facilities For Coburg

11 September 2018

Coburg families are a step closer to getting the first-rate facilities they deserve thanks to the Andrews Labor Government, with construction of major upgrades to Mercy College nearing completion.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Mercy College to inspect progress on the new science, music, home economics and drama spaces.

The Labor Government has contributed $1 million to the $4 million project through the Non-Government School Grants Program.

It forms part of the Government’s $120 million investment to build and upgrade Catholic and independent schools across the state.

The Government has worked closely with the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria and Independent Schools Victoria to ensure funding has been targeted to the areas of highest need.

Non-government schools are an important part of Victoria's education system, with over one-third of Victorian students studying at Catholic or independent schools.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and education, and has invested more than $3.8 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,300 school upgrades and 70 new school projects across the state, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
