Building A Stronger Construction Industry Supply Chain

The Allan Labor Government is strengthening the state’s local construction industry supply chain, improving the availability of in-demand materials, boosting our manufacturing capabilities and creating skilled jobs.

Minister for Economic Growth Tim Pallas today announced the Labor Government’s support for Indonesian manufacturer Impack Pratama, a global building materials manufacturer to establish new world-class manufacturing facility in Dandenong South, creating 31 new jobs over the next four years.

Impack Pratama manufactures cutting-edge glass, metal, plastic and composite products used in the construction of industrial, commercial and residential buildings.

Due to open later this year, the new facility will produce Fibreglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP), an eco-friendly solution to traditional roofing materials with lower carbon production and energy efficiencies.

Attracting Impack Pratama’s manufacturing hub to Victoria will help cut costs for local builders by reducing the need to import FRP from interstate, minimising transportation of these large materials.

With around 40 per cent of FRP currently sourced from outside of Victoria, localising production will add to the security of supply for our builders, easing the risk of transport disruptions and fostering the resilience of the state's supply chain.

The Labor Government is backing industry by providing targeted investments to drive innovation, secure our supply chains and support local businesses.

Victoria is the leading Australian investment destination for advanced manufacturing projects, attracting $588 million in foreign direct investment last financial year – and contributing more than 2,500 new jobs out of 43 new international investments.

Victoria’s $33 billion manufacturing industry is a driving force of the state’s economy, made up of over 24,000 businesses, supporting more than 260,000 jobs and exporting goods worth $23.9 billion.
