Labor is building much needed new homes for young families in Geelong's south-west.
Construction is now underway for almost 400 new homes at Silverbrook in Mount Duneed.
This includes around 100 social and affordable homes in a vibrant and well-connected neighbourhood, close to public transport and local services.
It’s also a boost for local jobs with works being delivered by Geelong-based contractor Drapers Civil Contracting.
Ideally positioned south of Waurn Ponds railway station, Silverbrook has been designed to support a healthy, active lifestyle, with access to open space, walking and cycling paths, retail, education and public transport.
In addition to Silverbrook, Development Victoria is delivering a new sports precinct in the area on behalf of Sport and Recreation Victoria. Works are under way on the precinct, which will include a multi-sports facility at the corner of Baanip Boulevard and Ghazepore Road.
Key transport upgrades will include a new signalised intersection on Baanip Boulevard, a bus interchange and a new commuter car park at Waurn Ponds Station – with works to begin later this year.
Planning for the northern parcel at Silverbrook along Muir Road is progressing, with the full development expected to be delivered in stages through to 2031.
Development Victoria is partnering with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation on the design of a nature reserve, giving the community a place to gather, relax and connect with Country.
Jess Wilson and the Liberals oppose Labor's housing agenda – blocking reforms that would deliver more homes for first home buyers and young families doing it tough.
Only Labor has a plan to increase housing supply and make life easier and more affordable for Victorians.
