More homes will be built next to the Allan Labor Government’s new Arden Station.
540 homes are to be built on Arden Street, North Melbourne – through Labor’s Development Facilitation Program.
The development will deliver two buildings ranging from 24 to 37 storeys and includes 15 per cent affordable housing.
It will feature a variety of one, two-and three-bedroom homes.
The development will also feature a gym, shared workspaces and a home cinema.
Future residents will be able to enjoy communal open space on terraces and rooftops.
It will also include retail and commercial spaces for businesses to use and for the future community to enjoy.
Pedestrian links will be created to better connect Arden Street, Barwise Street and Laurens Street.
Extensive bicycle parking facilities will be also installed – making it easier for people to get around.
Next door, the Metro Tunnel’s Arden Station and tram links mean residents are just minutes from the State Library, RMIT University and the Queen Victoria Market.
The project was approved through Labor’s Development Facilitation Program which has fast-tracked more than 12,000 homes across Victoria, including more than 3,000 this year alone.
The Liberals have promised to rip up the Development Facilitation Program – which will block young people from entering the housing market.
