Building A Better Sunbury Road

29 April 2018

Drivers in Sunbury will get a faster, less congested commute with major upgrades to Sunbury Road.

The works will be part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Suburban Roads Upgrade – the biggest investment in suburban roads in Victoria’s history – to fix 22 key suburban arterials and create more than 4,200 jobs.

Sunbury Road will be widened between Powlett Street and Bulla-Diggers Rest Road from two to four lanes and the intersection of Lancefield Road and Francis Boulevard will be upgraded.

The upgrades will slash congestion and travel times for more than 24,000 drivers who rely on Sunbury Road each day.

New wire rope barriers and a shared cycling and pedestrian path will also we installed.

Improvements to Sunbury Road will better link local communities, local services and employment hubs, including the Somerton industrial precinct and Broadmeadows and Epping city centres.

The upgrade will also boost the reliability of bus services between Sunbury and Melbourne Airport.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will include $2.2 billion to upgrade 13 key arterial routes across the northern and south-eastern suburbs, on top of the $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade announced in last year’s budget.

The Suburban Roads Upgrade will fix more than 50 kilometres of roads across Melbourne.

As part of the Suburban Roads Upgrade package, several other key routes through Melbourne’s northern suburbs will be upgraded, including Craigieburn Road, Epping Road and Bridge Inn Road.
