Building A Better Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road

29 April 2018

Drivers in the growing south east will get a faster, less congested commute with major upgrades to Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road in Pakenham.

The works will be part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Suburban Roads Upgrade – the biggest investment in suburban roads in Victoria’s history – to fix 22 key suburban arterials and create more than 4,200 jobs.

Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road will be duplicated from two to four lanes between Princes Freeway and Manks Road to boost capacity and slash congestion for more than 21,000 vehicles that rely on it each day.

New traffic lights will be installed at Ballarto and Hall Roads and the existing roundabouts will be upgraded at the Monash Freeway.

Safety barriers will be installed along Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road, a new bridge will be built over Deep Creek and new walking and cycling paths will be constructed.

By upgrading Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road, drivers will have a better north-south route, relieving traffic pressure on the South Gippsland Highway and improving travel times into the Cranbourne town centre.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will include $2.2 billion to upgrade 13 key arterial routes across the northern and south-eastern suburbs, on top of the $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade announced in last year’s budget.

The Suburban Roads Upgrade will fix more than 50 kilometres of roads across Melbourne.
