The Andrews Government have proudly built and funded the new state-of-the-art Broadford ambulance branch staffed by a dedicated paramedic team to provide faster response times and save lives.
Premier Daniel Andrews and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes joined local paramedics and members of the community, in opening the station on Hamilton Street.
The new ambulance station features a four-bay garage for ambulances, areas for hard-working paramedics to rest and recuperate, training facilities, and improved security and car parking to make sure paramedics are safe.
For the first time, Broadford has an ambulance station right in the heart of town, meaning when an emergency strikes, the very best care is closer when it’s needed most.
The ambulance station is located next to the brand new CFA station that was also built and funded by the Andrews Labor Government, providing our emergency service staff and volunteers an amazing home base to support what they do best – protect and care for the community. The Broadford CFA station will be officially opened at a community event next year.
The former Liberal Government went to war with paramedics, creating an ambulance crisis that saw Victoria’s ambulance performance decline to the worst on the Australian mainland.
We’ve fixed their mess, delivering a $1 billion investment in our ambulance service to recruit more paramedics, build more stations and get more vehicles on the road.
This includes a big $299 million boost in the Victorian Budget 2019/20 to continue to grow Victoria’s world-class ambulance service.
The latest response times data for Mitchell Shire Council shows the Labor Government’s investments are working. Ambulances are arriving at code one emergencies in an average of 13 minutes and 30 seconds – 5 minutes and 21 seconds faster than the final September quarter of the former Government.
Across the state, paramedics arrived at code one emergencies within the benchmark 15-minute period 83.3 per cent of the time – compared with 71.8 per cent at the height of the ambulance crisis under the Liberals.
