Students across Victoria will have better classrooms and new schools in our growing suburbs and towns, with the largest investment in school buildings in our state’s history.
The Andrews Labor Government is investing a record $1.25 billion as part of the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to build and upgrade schools across Victoria to make sure every child has a great local school.
This includes $353.2 million to plan and build brand new schools across Victoria and $180.8 million to plan and upgrade schools across regional and rural parts of the state.
A total of 12 new schools will be built to keep up with demand now and into the future:
- Armstrong Creek West Primary School
- Beveridge West Primary School
- Botanic Ridge Primary School
- Casey Fields (Five Ways) Primary School
- Clyde North East Primary School
- Craigieburn South Secondary School
- Davis Creek Primary School
- Footscray Learning Precinct – Seddon Secondary Campus
- Keysborough South Primary School
- Lucas Primary School
- Point Cook South Senior Secondary School
- Wyndham South (Riverwalk) Primary School.
Planning and early works will start on a further nine new schools to make sure we keep pace with population growth across the state, while schools with growing enrolments will be able to meet immediate demand thanks to $77.8 million for new relocatable classrooms to create more room for more students.
Students at Victorian special schools will also get the facilities they deserve, thanks to a $55.6 million investment to upgrade 12 schools and undertake planning at a further three sites to make our education system fairer.
The Budget also includes $10 million to boost school pride and sports participation, $45 million to remove asbestos from our classrooms and $10 million for the Inclusive Schools Fund, which is for projects that make schools more welcoming environments for kids with disabilities.
Since coming to government, the Labor Government has invested more than $3.8 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state. This is in stark contrast to the Liberals and Nationals who left our schools to crumble and decay, while slashing $1 billion from our education system.
The Labor Government’s school building boom has delivered more than 1,300 school upgrades and 70 new school projects across the state, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
