Better Care With New Waverley Ambulance Station

09 September 2016

The Andrews Labor Government will build a new state-of-the-art home for Waverley ambulance service, giving local paramedics the larger and modern facilities they need and deserve.

Minister for Ambulance Services, Jill Hennessy, today announced $1.2 million to rebuild the Waverley ambulance station, supporting paramedics to quickly respond to local emergencies and save lives.

Despite growing demand in Melbourne’s east, the current 24-hour Waverley ambulance station is one of the oldest in metropolitan Melbourne. It is currently home to 25 paramedics from the Waverley, Burwood and Syndal teams.

In cramped conditions, these busy paramedic teams are responding to about 800 cases a month. It is clear paramedics have outgrown this tired and old facility.

The new purpose-built station will give paramedics the larger and modern facilities they need and deserve, and room to grow into the future.

It will feature four ambulance bays, four rest rooms, modern amenities, rest and recline facilities and a fully equipped kitchen so our paramedics can stay well rested and healthy.

In the Victorian Budget 2016/17, the Labor Government invested a record $144 million to rebuild the ambulance system after four years of crisis and neglect under the former Liberal Government.

It also includes our $60 million Ambulance Response Time Rescue Fund to provide faster responses and make sure our ambulances respond to the right patient, at the right time, with the right care.

“We are working side-by-side with paramedics to fix the system, and investing for the future so ambulances can arrive at medical emergencies in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs sooner.”

Quote attributable to Member for Eastern Metropolitan Shaun Leane

“Having a new, state-of-the-art branch will make a huge difference to Waverley’s hard-working and dedicated paramedics who have clearly outgrown their current home.”
