Grassroots sports clubs in Bendigo will have new ways to unlock their potential after 12 clubs scored a share of the latest round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

Minister for Sport John Eren today joined members of the Kangaroo Flat Football Netball Club at Dower Park to announce they were one of more than 600 successful applicants across the state to receive a grant from the popular program.

Through the program, the Labor Government is helping clubs expand their skills and strengthen their operations, and assisting athletes to become the best they can be.

Other Bendigo based clubs and associations to receive the funding included:

  • Bendigo Dragons American Football Club
  • Bendigo Umpires Association
  • Bendigo Women's Football Club
  • Special Olympics Victoria Bendigo Region
  • Lockwood South and District Bowling Club
  • Maiden Gully Junior Football Club
  • Marong Cricket Club
  • Quarry Hill Croquet Club
  • Bendigo Yacht Club
  • Quarry Hill Golf Club
  • Bendigo Radio Air Controlled Club

The Sporting Club Grants Program gives clubs the chance to secure grants of up to $5000 to bolster operations and increase community participation, and $2000 to expand the skill sets of coaches or officials, for training such as first aid courses or umpires’ accreditation programs.

Grants of up to $1000 are also available for clubs to buy new team uniforms or equipment.

The program is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s work to make sport more accessible and inclusive, increase local participation, stimulate local economies and build sustainable volunteer opportunities.

Applications for the next round of the four-year fund will open on 14 June 2016. For more information or to apply online, visit Link
