Bayles Regional Primary School is getting a new modular multi-purpose room to replace older classrooms containing asbestos.
The Minister for Education James Merlino today visited the primary school in Bayles to announce the $400,000 building to replace former classrooms, an art room and toilets that contain asbestos.
This school is one of multiple to benefit from an additional $85 million in funding in the Victorian Budget 2017/18 to install modular buildings in 30 schools where asbestos is being removed.
Mr Merlino also recently announced $2.1 million for two schools in the Latrobe Valley to undergo similar works for the demolition of old asbestos-ridden facilities and the construction of new buildings.
As part of the Asbestos Removal Program, poor condition buildings containing asbestos will be demolished and replaced with permanent modular buildings. This will reduce planning and building times, and mean less disruption to students, staff and teaching programs.

The Labor Government conducted an audit of 1,712 government schools and found high-risk asbestos in 497 schools. By March 2016 all of this asbestos had been removed.
