Ballarat Construction Blitz Supports Local Jobs

28 May 2018

Local workers and businesses are benefitting from the Andrews Labor Government’s multi-million dollar investment in key infrastructure projects that are transforming the Ballarat CBD.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford met local workers on the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment today where major excavation work on the 405-space commuter car park is now complete, and installation of the concrete footings has begun.

Minister Pulford also outlined opportunities for local businesses and contractors through construction of the GovHub, which is set to begin later this year and will support construction jobs and ongoing employment.

The GovHub building will be built on underutilised Crown land in a strategic location in Ballarat’s CBD. Together with the commercial redevelopment of the station, the project will significantly boost economic activity in Ballarat.

Up to 140 jobs are being created during the construction of the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment and 30 ongoing jobs as part of the commercial hotel and convention centre stage of the project.

The GovHub will bring 600 new Government jobs to Ballarat, and create a further 500 jobs during the construction phase.

The Ballarat GovHub is also a Local Jobs First – Victorian Industry Participation Policy (VIPP) project, which must meet minimum local content requirements in the design and construction of the building.

A special industry briefing is being held for local businesses, sub-contractors and product suppliers on Thursday 31 May in Ballarat.

Locals interested in working on the project can register through the online portal ballaratgovhub.icn.org.au.
