Backing Our SES Volunteers In Emerald

28 April 2017

Some of the busiest State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers in the state, Emerald SES, will soon have a brand new unit, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino today visited Emerald SES to announce $1.8 million to build the new modern facility, as part of the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This funding boost ensures Emerald SES volunteers will have everything they need to protect the community when disaster strikes.

Emerald SES volunteers respond to around 1,300 requests for help every year, across the Dandenongs and surrounding areas.

The new facility will mean the dedicated volunteers of the Emerald SES can concentrate on keeping the community safe, rather than spending their time tin-rattling for spare change.

The Emerald unit’s volunteers are some of the most dedicated in the state, with more than half having served for more than a decade.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino

“These funds will give the dedicated volunteers of the Emerald SES – and their trusty orange overalls – the new home they deserve.”

They put their heart and soul into protecting this community, and it’s only right they have first-rate facilities to work from.”
