A New Operating Theatre For Ararat Hospital

31 August 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is building a new operating theatre at Ararat Hospital to give patients the world-class care they need, closer to home.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today announced the $2.93 million project, made possible by the Labor Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

The project will mean Ararat Hospital will become home to a second operating theatre so that doctors can perform more surgeries, as well as more day procedure beds and post-anaesthetic care unit beds.

The project will create nine jobs during construction and is expected to be complete by 2020.

The latest cash injection for health in Ararat comes on top of the $4.1 million ‘one stop shop’ for community health services being delivered for Ararat.

The Labor Government’s $250 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history. It’s giving doctors and nurses in regional and rural areas the very best facilities they need to do what they do best – provide world-class care when Victorians need it most.

The Government is giving health services all over the state record funding so that they can provide that care. At East Grampians Health Service, the Labor Government is investing $21.81 million in 2018/19 – that’s a 4.9 per cent increase than the previous 12 months.

“All Victorians deserve the highest standards of health care, no matter where they live. We’re investing millions of dollars all over regional and rural Victoria to ensure that’s exactly what regional Victorians get.”

“You can’t trust the Liberal Nationals when it comes to health. They cut, close and privatise at every chance they get – and they’ll do it again if they get the chance.”
