The Andrews Labor Government has today marked the largest-ever Midsumma Pride March by unveiling the winning design for the Victorian Pride Centre.
Minister for Equality Martin Foley today congratulated St Kilda-based firms Grant Amon Architects and Brearley Architects and Urbanists on their innovative take on the Pride Centre design.
The design brings together a welcoming space for visitors and a home for LGBTI organisations to collaborate and share ideas.
The Victorian Pride Centre will house 10 major LGBTI organisations including JOY FM, the Victorian Aids Council, LGBTQI Multi Culture, Multi Faith, Team Melbourne and the Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives.
It will be the beating heart of Victoria’s LGBTI community.
The Labor Government last year announced $15 million to support the development of the Centre at 79-81 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda. The site has been donated by the City of Port Phillip.
The successful design from Grant Amon Architects and Brearley Architects and Urbanists was selected by an expert panel chaired by Dimity Reed OAM.
The impressive shortlist included designs from BKK and Sibling Architecture, Hayball, and Preston Lane Architects.
Minister Foley today also announced $600,000 over three years to secure the future of Midsumma Festival, support long-term planning and attract new sponsors.
