More than 50,000 Victorians have been kept safe from the threat of family violence at an Orange Door, the Support and Safety Hubs rolled out by the Andrews Labor Government.
Acting Premier Lisa Neville and Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence Gabrielle Williams visited the Orange Door in Frankston today – one of five Support and Safety Hubs women and children can access when they need to.
A key recommendation of the landmark Royal Commission into Family Violence, the Orange Door gives Victorian women and children access to the support and services they need when they are experiencing family violence.
The Labor Government has established five Orange Doors – in Frankston, Geelong, Morwell, Mildura and North Melbourne. Frankston was the first established - and has now been in operation for 12 months.
The Orange Doors are funded by a $448 million investment by the Labor Government – as part of our record $2.7 billion efforts to address family violence.
Women, children and young people who attend Orange Doors are able to access specialist family services in a safe and secure environment - or need extra support with the care of children.
The Orange Door brings together workers from specialist family violence services, child and family services, Aboriginal services and services aimed at perpetrators. The model is designed to make it easier for people to seek help and support earlier. Locations are clearly visible and close to public transport.
The Labor Government is getting on with the job of building Orange Doors, with 12 more to be up and running by 2022.
The Labor Government is also investing $9 million towards projects and initiatives that help stop family violence and violence against women in its tracks before it starts. There are almost 60 projects across the state driving gender equality, workplace respect and increased women’s participation in fields traditionally dominated by men.
More than half of the Royal Commission’s 227 recommendations have now been implemented.
