Victorian-made television program Neighbours today celebrates 30 years since it first aired on Australian screens.

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, congratulated the Neighbours team, saying the milestone sets the record as Australia’s longest-running drama series and highlights the home-grown talents of Victorian cast and crew.

The series, produced by FremantleMedia Australia, is filmed at Global Studios in Nunawading and on location in Vermont South, where a cul-de-sac has doubled for Ramsay Street since 1985. It has been home to over 200 Neighbours cast and crew.

In 30 years, Neighbours has become a household name in Australia and abroad, with millions tuning in for their daily dose of family entertainment.

It has launched the careers of stars such as Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and, more recently, Margot Robbie, now a sought-after talent in Hollywood.
