$10m For Mental Health Services To Smooth The Path To NDIS

16 May 2019

Mental health service providers will be ready to offer the best care when it comes to transitioning over to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), thanks to a $10 million investment from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Mental Health Martin Foley has announced Sacred Heart Mission as one of 18 organisations to receive a funding boost through the NDIS Transition Support Package.

The package will be provided over two years to support organisations as they adapt their business models and organisational capability, to ensure they operate efficiently as a NDIS-funded service provider.

Sacred Heart Mission will receive $138,000 and another local provider, Star Health is set to receive $289,900 through the grants. The funding will help develop workforce capability and new business systems, such as client management systems, billing and booking systems, to manage the cost of doing business in the NDIS.

It will also be channelled to projects to respond to significant workforce challenges such as increasing the mental health and disability workforce and retraining existing staff to adapt to the NDIS delivery model.

The Labor Government has provided a further $10 million over two years in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to support the wider disability sector, including support for people from Aboriginal communities and diverse backgrounds to overcome barriers to transition, and improvements to hospital discharge processes.

Since 2016, we have invested more than $40 million in the NDIS Transition Support Packages program and have extended transition support to the end of 2020.
