Work Starts On New High School In Preston

28 May 2018

Students in Preston will soon have the first-rate classrooms and facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Preston Robin Scott today turned the first sod on the new $15.6 million Preston High School, replacing the former Preston Girls’ Secondary College on Cooma Street.

The upgrade includes converting the former school’s central heritage building into new state-of-the-art classrooms and a STEM centre to give students the modern facilities they need for a great 21st century education.

The redevelopment also involves relocating the canteen and administration facilities, demolishing non-heritage buildings and landscaping outdoor areas.

The new school was designed by Baldasso Cortese, and will be built by CA Property Group. It will open for its first cohort of Year 7 students from the start of next year.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student has a great local school and education – investing more than $3.8 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across Victoria.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,300 school upgrades and 70 new school projects across the state, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
