The Andrews Labor Government has achieved gender equality targets on treasury boards, with women now making up 63 per cent of current board positions in the Treasurer’s portfolio.
Women now comprise 50 per cent of all Chair positions in the Treasurer’s portfolio.
Between March 2015 and June 2018, 52 per cent of all new Victorian Government board appointments were women. This increases the representation of women overall from 39 per cent to 53 per cent on all Victorian Government boards.
Beyond the boardroom, Victoria’s economy has also seen rising female participation rate in the labour market – contributing 74 per cent of the overall rise in Victoria’s participation rate since June 2014.
Increased educational attainment among women has been a particularly important contributor to the higher levels of workforce participation.
The proportion of Victorian women with a post-school qualification has increased to 64 per cent in 2016, from 51 per cent in 2006.
