Works are set to begin on a new off-road path along the northern edge of Victoria Park later this month, as the Andrews Labor Government continues to deliver safer cycling connections for Ballarat.
The 500 metre path will run parallel to Sturt Street between Russell and Gillies streets, and connect missing links in Ballarat’s cycling network.
There’ll be wider curbs, traffic islands and pedestrian crossings to make crossing the road easier and safer, and raised crossings will be constructed to calm traffic in local streets
Construction of the upgrades will be shared between VicRoads and the City of Ballarat.
Discussions are also continuing between VicRoads and a range of other stakeholders to reach an outcome which meets the expectations of the wider Ballarat community in relation to cycling facilities in the city’s centre.
These upgrades across Ballarat are part of the Towards Zero Action Plan funded by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and are being delivered by VicRoads and the City of Ballarat.
Towards Zero aims to ensure no one is seriously injured or killed on Victorian roads.
The Victoria Park off-road path will begin in late July and is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.
