Important design studies needed as part of the Warrnambool Harbour Master Plan have been given the green light thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
The 2018/19 Victorian State Budget provided $330,000 for the Warrnambool Harbour Sand Movement Study, with the Labor Government and Council working together closely since the release of the Warrnambool Harbour Master Plan to identify which studies were immediate priorities under the plan.
As a result of these discussions, rock armouring design and documentation for the Warrnambool breakwater and a concept design for harbour protection options, including a spur breakwater, will now go ahead.
It was previously announced the money provided in the 2018/19 Victorian State Budget will also be used for a study to better understand ways to mitigate and manage coastal erosion within Lady Bay. This includes modelling to assess and monitor the natural coastal processes and sand movement within Lady Bay.
An economic analysis to assess the benefit of future investment in an expanded Warrnambool Harbour will also be undertaken as part of this announcement.
This is in addition, to the Government’s investment of $420,000 to undertake detailed design, planning requirements, a business case and permits to prepare for an upgraded Warrnambool boat ramp.
