Victoria’s Artisanal Producers On The Road To Glory

17 September 2018

The Andrews Labor Government has launched a new blueprint for Victoria’s artisanal produce sector, backed by $2 million in grants, to promote the best of Victorian food, wine and agriculture.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford joined Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today at Danny’s farm in Blampied to launch Victoria’s first Artisanal Sector Roadmap, new grants to support the sector and a new web portal.

Extensive industry consultation has shaped the vision and strategy for the sector and the grants program. Nine regional forums were held across the state, where producers were invited to share their stories. An online survey enabled anyone who couldn’t attend these forums to have their say.

The first stage of the grants program is now open, with up to $5,000 per applicant now available to address the immediate needs of producers and food businesses.

During consultation, sector participants identified the need for skills development and small-scale equipment.

Stage two of the grants program will support larger scale projects and will be launched in early 2019. An Expression of Interest process will allow potential applicants to help shape the design of the stage two grant program.

The Sector Roadmap demonstrates the Labor Government’s support for sector growth through four key actions of:

  • Promoting the sector’s vibrant diversity
  • Building sector capabilities
  • Facilitating access to government services and support
  • Supporting sector-led development.

Over the coming months, the Labor Government will work closely with key sector stakeholders to develop an implementation plan for the Sector Roadmap.

A web portal has been created to help Victorian producers access information about government services and support available to the sector. It will be further expanded with input from key sector stakeholders.
