The Andrews Labor Government has formalised an agreement with the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) to deliver an eight-week internship program in China for up to 50 Victorian university students during 2018 and 2019.
As part of the agreement, the Labor Government will cover the cost of language lessons, the internship and accommodation, meaning participating students will only need to cover their flights and personal expenses.
The Study Melbourne Language and Internship Program, delivered in partnership with the CEAIE, provides students with the opportunity to undertake three weeks of language study at a Chinese university and a five-week internship at a reputable public or private sector organisation.
Beyond study and cultural immersion, students also make important professional connections, gain cross-cultural communication skills and undertake valuable work experience to help jump start their careers.
This is just one of several Labor Government programs offering students the chance to study in China, including the Hamer Scholarships and the Victorian Young Leaders to China Program, which together have attracted more than 1,000 participants.
These programs are testament to the strength of the two-way relationship between Victoria and China in the education sector.
International study and collaboration are vital for young Victorians because the relationships that are established through education stay with those who experience them – the future leaders, researchers, diplomats, teachers and business people of both countries.
Minister for Trade and Investment Philip Dalidakis is currently in China on a trade mission and visited the CEAIE to formalise the agreement on behalf of the Labor Government.
