Upper Murray Events Centre Gets The Tick Of Approval

29 May 2019

A new world-class events centre in the heart of Victoria’s Upper Murray is one step closer, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.

Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes today announced the Labor Government will provide $800,000 towards the $2.4 million Upper Murray Events Centre in Corryong.

The centre will host events as part of the iconic Man from Snowy River Bush Festival and provide a home for local sporting teams and community groups.

The Labor Government’s contribution to the events centre will ensure the Festival continues to increase its annual visitation, delivering a $1.4 million boost to the local economy and local jobs through an additional 3,518 overnight visitor stays.

The Man from Snowy River Bush Festival is a not-for-profit event that celebrates everything ‘country’ – from Victoria’s unique heritage and history to art, music, poetry and age-old skills that are still widely used today.

Some of the main attractions and activities include working cattle dog championships, ute musters, rodeo challenges, camp-drafting, bush markets and street parades.

Operated by volunteers, the Festival has been running for 21 years and reinvests all profits into local community projects, clubs and groups.

The project has received strong local support across the region and, after its completion in mid-2020, the Centre will be used year-round by community groups including:

  • Man from Snowy River Bush Festival Board
  • Corryong Neighbourhood Centre
  • Corryong Historic Machinery Club
  • Corryong Draft Club
  • Corryong Men’s Shed
  • Corryong and Upper Murray Agricultural Pastoral Society
  • Corryong Football Netball Club,
  • Federal Football Netball Club
  • Corryong Lions Club
  • Rotary Club of Corryong.

The festival will be held from 2-5 April 2020. For ticket information, visit bushfestival.com.au.
