Unveiling The New DHL Express Gateway To The World

17 August 2015

The Andrews Labor Government has today welcomed the opening of the new $20 million DHL Express Melbourne Gateway facility at Melbourne Airport.

In opening the freight processing facility, Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio congratulated the company for having the foresight to establish their businesses locally, capitalising on the strategic position of the Airport and the state’s strong global trade and export credentials.

The 14,780 sqm hub features warehousing and office facilities and state-of-the-art processing capabilities to enable shipment processing of more than 53,000 kilograms of goods each day. The centre employs almost 100 highly skilled Victorians.

The new facility, which is more than double the size of DHL’s previous Melbourne site, will service 30 percent of DHL’s Australian volume passing through Melbourne. The centre features environmentally friendly technologies that are expected to reduce the site’s carbon emissions by almost 50 percent.

The Government is supporting the transition of the Victoria’s economy through targeted sector strategies, helping businesses find ways to use their skills to create new products and reach new markets.

Through its $200 million Future Industries Fund, the Government will fast-track support for industries such as the food and fibre sector. Emerging businesses will also be assisted to get their ideas off the ground with the $60 million Start up Victoria initiative.

The Government has set up the $100 million Back to Work initiative, which provides financial assistance to businesses to hire unemployed.

The Government is also committed to attracting international investment and building on overseas trade. The global network of Victorian Government Business Offices is being expanded, with new offices slated for opening in South America, Singapore and Turkey. The Government also provides a range of support to local firms exporting or considering exporting, including a proactive trade mission program to key markets.
