Reaching Out And Supporting Vulnerable Victorians

11 October 2018

Seven leading homelessness organisations will share in $17 million from the Andrews Labor Government to establish new assertive outreach and supportive housing teams and 20 new modular homes in areas of high need.

Minister for Housing Martin Foley announcing the successful providers today, which will ensure people experiencing homelessness have better access to services that help them find and maintain housing.

The seven successful service providers across Victoria will roll out the initiatives over two years as part of the Labor Government’s $45 million Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Plan.

The chosen providers include Sacred Heart Mission, Uniting Ballarat, Brophy Family and Youth Services, Haven Home Safe, Neami Ltd, Wellways and Launch Housing.

Assertive outreach teams will be established in Dandenong, Frankston, Maroondah, and Geelong, Warrnambool, Bendigo and Swan Hill, to actively seek out and provide personalised support to people experiencing homelessness – such as finding stable housing, accessing health and other services.

Once people are housed, supportive housing teams in Dandenong, Frankston, inner Melbourne and Geelong will help equip them with the skills they need to maintain this housing.

In addition, new modular homes will be provided in Dandenong, Geelong and Bacchus Marsh – providing a support network and pathway for people sleeping rough to access permanent and stable housing as quickly as possible.

The Labor Government has made a record investment of $1 billion in additional homeless and housing support.
