Putting Ballan Patients First

09 August 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is putting Ballan patients and their families first by providing urgent assistance to ensure Ballan District Health & Care can continue to provide the services the community needs.

Minister for Health Jill Hennessy today announced an urgent $500,000 assistance package to help the service, which is a privately-run not-for-profit organisation.

The package is a short-term grant that will be repaid once Ballan District Health & Care ensures its long-term financial sustainability.

Ballan District Health & Care plays an important role in the local community – providing vital local hospital, community health, childcare and aged care services as well as being a major employer across the region.

Although the Ballan District Health & Care service is a private, not-for profit organisation, the Labor Government invested $242,000 this year – more than the $231,000 contribution by the former Liberal Government.

The Labor Government has increased funding to every health service and bush nursing centre in Victoria each year since coming to government.

That sits in stark contrast to the former Liberal National Government – who cut $1 billion from our healthcare system, leaving patients waiting far too long for life-saving care.
