The Andrews Labor Government has unveiled final designs for the new transit centre and all-day parking area as part of the Revitalisation of the Cowes Precinct Project.
The Labor Government is investing $1.8 million in the Bass Coast Shire Council project, which will improve traffic flow, boost the visitor economy and create new community space in Cowes.
The new transit centre will enable cars and coaches to move in and out of central Cowes more easily, and create 111 additional long-term car parks.
With the detailed plans now endorsed by Council, the project will soon be out for tender and the works are expected to be completed in early 2019.
The project is also transforming the Jetty Triangle into a grass-terraced area for community events, festivals and markets. The new space will be an attractive and people-friendly space for everyone to enjoy.
Work began on the Jetty Triangle began last month and will be completed later this year.
As well as benefiting locals, the Revitalisation of the Cowes Precinct Project will support the growing number of visitors coming to Phillip Island as a result of the major improvements to the nearby popular Penguin Parade.
The Labor Government is also investing $48.2 million in the development of the Phillip Island Nature Park Visitor Centre, which will boost tourism and create jobs.
