The South West Loddon Pipeline is approaching another milestone, with 300 kilometres of main pipe soon to be laid on the $80.6 million project that will secure water supplies for local communities and farmers.
Minister for Water Lisa Neville today met farmers at Ian Gould’s property at Richmond Plains to discuss the benefits of their connection and how they are using the water to benefit their farming enterprises across the region.
The second stage of the project stretches across the towns of Skinners Flat, Fiery Creek, Arnold, Bridgewater, Powlett, East Gowar, Wedderburn South and Kurting.
The Labor Government invested $40 million towards the 1,300 kilometre project, with additional investment from Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water and the Commonwealth Government.
It is on track to be completed on schedule mid-next year and will service up to 630 rural properties and farming enterprises over a 2,900 square kilometre area with a reticulated water supply.
Access to secure water supplies from the South West Loddon Pipeline will reduce the current reliance on water carting and sustain the agricultural sector that underpins the viability of this region.
Water supplied by the pipeline will also make it easier for farmers to invest in and expand their operations, supporting employment in the local farming sector and providing broader economic benefit.
The project is being delivered in partnership with the Labor Government, Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water, Coliban Water, Loddon Shire Council and the Commonwealth.
The Labor Government is encouraging farmers who want to be connected to the project to submit an expression of interest.
