Next Steps For St George’s New Aged Care Facility

22 September 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is calling for tenders to construct the new 90-bed public aged care residential facility at St George’s Health Service in Kew.

The facility was made possible by a Labor Government investment of $57.6 million in the Victorian Budget 2015/16, and will be built on the St George’s Hospital campus and be run by St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

The new unit is a stand-alone facility but its residents will have convenient access to the broad range of medical, rehabilitation and allied health care services currently provided by St George’s Health Service.

St George’s Aged Care facility will include two separate three storey ‘houses’ each accommodating 15 residents per floor. The design provides for a more home-like environment with private rooms, garden outlooks and access to domestic style kitchens.

It’s expected the building contractor will be appointed in early November 2017, with construction commencing in late November 2017. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2019.

The tender closes on Thursday, 5 October, 2017. For more details go to www.tender.vic.gov.auExternal Link
