A key appointment to Victoria’s Public Sector Commission has been made with the announcement of a new Commissioner to lead the organisation, which works to build the capacity of the public sector.
The Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings today announced the appointment of Dr Paul Grimes PSM as Victoria’s new Public Sector Commissioner.
As Victoria’s Public Sector Commissioner, Dr Grimes will be responsible for strengthening the efficiency, effectiveness and capability of the public sector in Victoria, and maintaining the public sector’s professionalism.
Dr Grimes has extensive experience in senior leadership positions within the public sector, including previously being Secretary of the Australian Department of Agriculture, and Secretary of the Australian Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
He has also held senior executive roles in both the South Australian and ACT governments, as well as serving as Associate Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Deputy Secretary in the Australian Department of Finance.
Dr Grimes is currently an independent policy adviser, advising on public policy and organisational performance and recently Chaired the Victorian Government review into the state’s electricity and gas network safety framework.
As Commissioner, Dr Grimes will also be a member of the Victorian Secretaries Board, which coordinates issues of strategic importance across the public sector.
The Victorian Public Sector Commission supports Victoria’s public sector by assessing, researching and providing advice and support on relevant administrative, governance and service delivery issues. The Commission also issues and monitors codes of conduct to support public sector professionalism and integrity.
Dr Grimes, who is succeeding Acting Commissioner Elizabeth Langdon, will commence the role on 22 January 2018.
