New School Facilities For Melbourne’s West

23 October 2017

Students in the Tarneit area will soon enjoy brand new school facilities, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Education Judith Graley today visited Tarneit Senior College to turn the first sod to mark the start of construction of the $11.6 million stage two upgrade.

The $20.6 million project is being delivered in three stages, with the final stage including two more car parks and another classroom wing.

The new stage two works will include construction of a new administration building and additional classrooms.

Tarneit students will also benefit from a new facility featuring a café-style central learning hub. The hub will facilitate a range of indoor and outdoor social and education activities and provide an interactive environment for staff, students and the broader community.

This same building will also feature specialist music practice rooms and drama and production spaces as well as a fitness centre and court stadium.

The entire community will benefit from a dedicated auditorium and theatrette, which will be open for public use and able to seat a whole year level of 370 students. There will also be new food and hospitality facilities, which will be used during school hours to teach students valuable life skills.

The school will also receive a new library, a specialised technology space, hardcourts, car parking and landscaping. These projects are expected to be completed by November 2018.

This investment follows the completion of the first stage work in 2012, which involved construction work on year 11 and 12 classrooms, design and science buildings as well as landscaping and car parks.

The Labor Government has invested an unprecedented $2.5 billion in school infrastructure over the past three Budgets, to ensure we can continue to cater for the estimated 90,000 students who are expected to enter the school system over the next five years.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,000 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
