New Facilities For Students In Melbourne’s South East

29 May 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is giving local students and staff the first-rate school facilities they deserve.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos visited Valkstone Primary School in East Bentleigh today to mark the completion of $3.5 million in critical upgrades.

The new facilities include extra prep classrooms, better toilets and a new sickbay. The upgrade has also delivered new office space and an upgraded lounge for teachers and staff.

Minister Merlino also discussed plans for stage two upgrades, which will include the new and upgraded classrooms, and improvements to the school’s library, art room and computer pods.

Building can begin on stage two works thanks to an investment of more than $3.7 million in this year's Victorian Budget 2017/18. The school also shared in a $12 million of state-wide planning fund last year.

The upgrades will ensure families in Bentleigh East have a great local school equipped to deliver the best possible education for their children.

The Labor Government has invested more than $2.5 billion in schools with 1,000 school upgrades currently underway and 56 new school being built across the state.
